Send her a postcard and tell her Toby says HI!

The war on TEXTING and DRIVING... IS ON!

IDK about you but I see it all the time. I've done it, as well...

Texting and driving. Do it and get caught, and it will cost you $500 bucks.
Some are taking this as seriously as fighting drunk driving!

Just saw this tweet from WUSA9...  New Device Prevents Texting While Driving : A company called CellControl is out with a tiny device that attaches to phones and prevents texting.

They had a huge conference on this today in DC... From the LA Times...

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood warned more than 200 attendees about the dangers of distracted driving and pledged to take action at the federal level to combat this "menace to society."

"Every single time you take your eyes off the road or talk on the phone while you're driving, even for just a few seconds, you put your life in danger, and you put others in danger too," LaHood said. "This kind of behavior is irresponsible, and the consequences are devastating."

Thoughts? Is this sorta thing overkill? Or is it about time?

Flurting on Facebook... harmless or reckless?

Take a look at this... I love this blog I read from WFAA.COM pretty much daily. Basically because I feel at times like the perfect not-so-perfect parent at times!

Anyway, this post examines flurting on facebook.

Now - peep these stats:

84 percent of single people in relationships admit that they carry on conversations and relationships that their signifigant others would not approve of online - which includes email, AIM, TEXT and FB.

61 percent of people married less than 10 years admit the same thing.

48 percent of people married, and 65 percent of singles who are in relationships, say they curtail online network sites when they're involved in a relationship.

What do you think of this? Is it emotional cheating? Reckless? Harmless?

Comment away!

Text, drive and PAY...

Text? Drive? If so ur a menace to society...

... And its gonna cost u 500 bones.

Even @ stopsigns and lighs!

So... about the Backstreet Boys...

I just got home from watching P!nk blow me away in Fairfax, just outside of DC...

... where I sat next to the head of promotion for Jive Records... a man I've known for a long time, through many battles, who I consider to be a colleague but when we break it all down, he's a friend for 10 years at least... give or take a year or two.

Anyway, we spoke briefly about the 'boys... and it made me think of some stuff on the way home.

That's where you come in.

If I could talk to one of them about anything related to music, life and their career... who would you want me to talk to?

And since I think it's important to use whatever position this life and career afford me for you, what would YOU have me ask them?

Let me know your thoughts... and then, I'll ask.

I'm pretty sure they'll let me do it.

Leave your thoughts as comments here. I'll report back with more tomorrow...

Viva Don Riccitelli and his consigliere Joseph Daddio... and Bridgette, the one who keeps it all together, too!

Pink. Suburban DC @ GMU Patriot Center...

See more pics from the show that i snapped here...

Janis Joplin.

Bob Marley.

Jimi Hendrix.

Wyclef Jean.

You can add a new name to the list of artists who - to me - embody what it means to be artists and activists. You know, those who write from the heart and who scream their hearts out on stage. The ones who go out and give it their all for their art and who share with those who will listen what fears they might have, what insecurities they face, the thoughts they're having and most of all they're the ones who make us feel. Ones who are real... and who can do it with just a guitar in an empty room... or in a studio packed with the latest in technology...

So, Alecia Moore, from outside Philly, who we all know as Pink, has joined the list in my life of artists who - well - make a difference.

Tonight I watched as Cirque du Soliel blended with a soundtrack provided by an amazing set of pipes backed by a band of musicians who complimented the entire experience in a way that gave me an adrenaline rush which lasted the duration of her set.

And I never got bored. She kept me the entire time. Her band had my jaw on the ground and her talent - which re-arranged some of her former R&B type sounding songs to the way she broke it down on a song that was so obviously about her trials with her husband - connected.

All the while she proved she's got something to say, and she's not disposable. At all.

Best thing is, she told me it would be this way.

Listen to this from when she announced the tour.

She's probably my hero now. Yeah, when she brought out the moonshine on stage and called out President Bush - AGAIN - with Mister President... she became my hero.

Here's another great podcast... check it out...

... and by the way, I don't think U and Ur hand was about Tommy Lee... I still don't feel the organized religion... and the bottle of Jaegar is cold for next time we catch up!

Pink, thank you for an amazing night of art. What a moment.

Congress to bail out newspapers? Is radio next?

Give this a read.
I'm wondering aloud:

1) should this even be up for debate on the Hill?

2) if it is, will radio be next because, hey, if they're handing out money to everyone why shouldn't we get some?

3) I'm overstimulated right now.

Gotta bounce. Back to the show, to take care of some stuff then off to a show tonight. It's like show week in my life...

Crooks try to bust into Gavin and Gwen's London house!

Some crooks tried to take Gavin and Gwen!

Here's Gaga. She's in DC now to do a couple of shows which were orignally at the 9:30 club but that she had to scrap because she did American Idol. Well, now they upped the venue to the DAR Constitution Hall and she's doing two.
And she'll be back in a few weeks with Kayne, too.

Anyway... she landed at Dulles this AM and wants to be left alone, I'd guess.

Here's the pics. Thanks Raven!

Shopping at Wal Mart can HURT your CREDIT??

Take a look at this.

CNN is doing a fascinating series this week on privacy. From speed cameras to where you shop and what you buy, you're being watched.

Read more here.

Who knew that going to Nordstrom to buy gifts on one card then going to Wal Mart for other things could hurt your credit?

Does this mean if you go to Whole Foods for some things and to Bottom Dollar or Bloom for others can hurt your credit, too?

What if I were to go buy some stuff from the Salvation Army or Goodwill on AmEx or Visa? Would that hurt my credit, too?

If you buy a lot of booze or make lots of trips to the liquor store, that can hurt, too!

Might want to think again before buying airline tickets on Priceline. Nope. That means you're trying to save money which must mean that you've got some financial problems or you're about to lose your job. Nope. Buy directly from the airlines.

But wait, if I fly Southwest... does that mean I'm a credit risk?

I will say this - I love American Express. It's the one card I carry that I love the most of all and I protect it with everything I've got because I know what it means to me. And it gets paid off in FULL monthly.

Heck, sometimes I even pay it off before its due just because... well... I know how powerful this card can be for me in my life.

Ditto my Visa and Mastercard.

But if shopping at Target and paying with AmEx or Visa means I'm a credit risk, then, today, my favorite card is my Target card.

But bottom line is I guess cash is still king.

Anyway, you should watch CNN this week to check this stuff out. It's almost scary.

And it's true.

Megan Fox toplessness...

We used to call toplessness a 'state of mind' back in the day when we launched our first topless summer back in Tampa... Apparently, that's the state of Megan Fox more often than not.

That being said she's a gifted actor who should be treated critically for her talents and she is dating an OG member of the 90210 posse.

Lie loud enough and long enough... and eventually...

... the people will believe it.

That is, until someone comes along who knows and tells you the truth that is so obvious that there's no way  it can be denied.

For some reason, and I admit I give into this desire at times, it is present in the human condition that we have an insatiable appetite for scandal.

For gossip.

For drama.

For things which have the hint of some sort of deception, squashing of the little guy, the presence of a grand plan designed to punish people and to change their lives.

And as such, we have people who choose for whatever reason to feed into this need. Those who feel that they need to throw fresh wood into what they think is a fire when it's really not even a single match lit to light only a candle.

We know who these people are. Paparazzi. Tabloid website owners. Gossip website people who invent stories designed to malign who hide behind a degree of anonymity while they choose very publicly do tear down people who have very real lives. Very real careers. Very real families and very real reputations.

Too often, in the world of the 'famous', these stories often times are proven true. These people stir their own pot of scandal which becomes a ready made entree served on the buffet of the global gossip stage.

But sometimes, there are people who make very real decisions - for themselves and for their own families - to made a decision which might seem unreasonable to some but is nonetheless a very real choice about life, career, reputation and happiness which presents itself that has to be made.

That's when it - as the Real World reality show being filmed here in DC would say - "stops being polite... and starts getting real..."

Consider this a real world wake up call.

There are times in life when we have choices to make. For family. For ourselves and our own happiness.  So we avail ourselves to ideas - challenges - new opportunities which we might not have thought about had we not made a choice to step out of the comfort zone of complacency to the very tumultuous climate of reality.

Right now, that environment is full of questions. Companies are losing money because other industries are losing money. While the signs of a recovery are present, the truth is that no one wants to take unnecessary risks which could have resounding implications.

But it's in these times we find opportunity.

And so, those who are looking for this break in the game get a chance to seek what they're looking for that will bring them happiness. And they get an opportunity to move up in life and career, in a role which will allow them to improve their family life, which, to me at least, is a million times more important than a professional life because it's all we as people have at the end of the day.

They get an offer. They decide to weigh their options. They accept the offer to leave the comfort zone they've known for the last several years and to take a step forward down the path which will lead them to where they're to become as they continue to move along in this life's great adventure.

And they do the right thing by the team they were on.

They resign. With notice. Telling their team they're making the decision they need to make even though it might not be easy, or what appears to be 'right' at the time. And they give their team the time typically given to a group of people whom have worked together closely to make a dent in the universe of what they do. Then the story gets told that someone is leaving...

... and we assume the worst.

We see a word like "exit" and we say they were fired.

We see a phrase like 'move on' and we say it means 'cost cut'.

When in reality, the truth is that a new fork in the road presented itself, and they chose to take the road less traveled by.

As the poet said, making the choice to take that fork in the road at times can "make all the difference."

I've called these people - those who have made the decision to answer the call - brave.

They are. I've known a few.

They're among the bravest people I've ever known.

Sure, for some life might not have been all diamonds. Some people are still living in the rough of the choices they've made. Some are in situations which are more tenuous than the ones they felt they might have left behind. For even more, the choices they've made are full of uncertainties because they've not yet stepped out on that journey yet because they're keeping their word - their bond - to their current teammates whom have shed blood, sweat and tears for what they've collectively built over time.

But even so, some tell lies. And they keep telling them. Resoundingly so. Lie after lie. Unreal bouts of fiction followed by even more unbelievable fiction. And they tell them publicly so that after a few days of bull, these individuals now find that their integrity is being questioned by the masses whom have been fed an oasis for so long that they now confuse water... with sand.

I'm here to tell you there's no sand. There's no mirage. No mysterious scheme or plan that is presenting itself. When you dig to the core and ask the questions of the people who know themselves the truth because they're part of it, you realize the truth. That things aren't what is being told. The truth is - in truth - none of their business - and that life is becoming what life always becomes...

... that which we as individuals choose to make it.

Yet some continue to lie. Yes. Lie. They invent a reality so false that it's amazing. Yet, their lies begin to hurt others - innocent people who are just trying to make ends meet day in and day out. And because there's a need to make their lies into reality, they keep lying and these innocent people have to deal with misery that sets in because they appeal to what people don't know and as a result they come to fear.

Regardless, they press on with their lies. They tear people down. Create distrust and fear.

And they just keep lying.

Even when the truth is so obvious, you can hear it live on the radio and worldwide on a myriad of apps on the web.

When you read industry sites, trade sites, gossip sites and whatnot that tell you one thing, always remember that there's another side... and then, a third side...

as an old boss once told me, "there are three sides to every story... therein lies the truth..."

The difference is, that no lie can hide that truth. It makes itself evident. It has too.

Because it's the truth.

And in doing so, that truth takes those telling the lies and discredits them.

So lie on, liars.

We've got lives to live.

While you wallow in the demise of yours.

Funny. I used to think that those who could, do and that those who can't teach.

I'm beginning to believe that those who can't - for whatever reason - lie.

And call it 'news' on their websites that are the exclamation point of a life that's epitaph will ultimately read with one word:

For my friends who have met the challenges of moving on, moving up and becoming more in this life for themselves, their families and for what they want to find that brings them happiness, I salute you. Give no credence to these liars....

Everyone knows what they're all about already.

And you've proven you're already something more.

And he's a bad guy..... WHY??!?!?!?

I mean, he's gotta protect that JoBro money, ya know? Seriously. It doesn't mean he loves her any less...

Here's a poem for him. It could be a song.

True love is blind
So sign on the line
I gotta cover my a$$
But I love your behind

Don't think me mean
You don't have scurvy
If you love me not my money
Let's call an attorney

Pre-Nup. It's just another way to show your love
Pre-Nup. It's a way to show you ain't some chickenheaded thug.

So sign your name on the dotted line and do it fast...
... it's a symbol to the world that our true love is meant to last!

If' you're not a gold digger, you don't need to worry...
... but if you don't sign baby, you'll be gone in a hurry!

This is the most epic comeback song I've ever heard from a band since I've been alive.

Real. Raw. Packed with emotion and heart. A re-application for a title once held by a band which held the post of being the defining American arena rock band.

Application accepted. Title restored.

At least for tonight on the station that is the soundtrack of the life of...

... well, me.

So let the rain fall down...

Not so sure what to say tonight... so here's some spew...

I'm not one to just write stuff when I'm not inspired by something. That being said, I'm not sure what to write about. I have some stuff in my head and I'll write about it soon enough, but it's not time for posts which look back while we're still writing our future, you know?

Yet there will be a time soon when change comes, and when we will press pause to pay tribute. When that happens, you can bet I'll let these thoughts flow.

But for now, for tonight, I'm not sure it's the time.

So when in doubt... spew!

I can't believe there are conservatives who would say that straight porn makes straight people gay. I guess when you're desperate you'll say anything, but I can't believe what I saw on the news networks tonight. And they wonder why people have issues with them.

It's quiet tonight. And clean. LOL. It wasn't before they came to do an inspection on the apartment today. LOL.

I have a neighbor who has an apartment just like mine so masterfully decorated that it makes me go WOW every time. Then I come home and wish I could hire a decorator.

I wonder how to get this book I'm writing Kyla published.

I wonder how to get someone to animate it.

Yes, I really am writing a book for my kiddo.

Doing the community affairs show for the station has been a blessing. It's fulfilling to do something which gives back.

I feel it's gonna rain like this for days... so let it rain down and wash everything away...

So many people are reaching out for advice on some things. I'm sure my brother - my family - here in DC is hearing the same sorts of requests. Here's what I'd say...

Come with what makes you you. Don't come with you doing the best of someone elses stuff. Why are YOU who you are? Anyone can do what has been done before, but to truly become who you are to be, you have to reach inside of you and find what it is that twists the world just a bit so that you can make your mark. So do what YOU do, and make noise on that over the ramblings of that which has already been done. Trust me. We've all seen it. In many instances when it comes to this life, we've been the ones who have done it. Imitation is flattery, but I've been blessed to be on the same team with the greatest to do this stuff, and trust me, they are the most individual, unique, innovative personalities who redefine what is to be. That's what you have to be. Someone who creates. Who pioneers. Who has to push the edge to see where it was and who has to be pulled back while creating the amazing. A personality with all the quirks, nuances and baggage that comes with it. A talent who is not the next so and so... but who is in themselves that which will become the stuff of legend.

Big shoes.

I think of Mick Ryder right now. I wonder how this original influence and tutor to me in radio is doing. I think of him often but too often he doesn't get the credit I owe him.

That changes now.

He was the one who I remember playing airchecks for. To get the unbridled and unabashed advice I needed to hear as I went forward.

He's the one who took me along to help install transmitters on some mountain in NJ. The one who taught me an appreciation for what the engineering and processing and whatnot could mean to a station. So many times I've forgotten these things only to be reminded that because of them can we truly be the best we can be. It's funny because he didn't just influence one of us at the station...

... there were two of us. And in some strange way that makes us a legacy.

I hope you're proud, Mick. I'll never forget the jock shout you made out of mine and Kid Kelly's because  I was a rookie who had this problem saying "Kid this and Kid that..."

And I'll never forget your teaching me the ways of Hot Hits. I still think of you when I make those segueways happen now with NexGen.

Funny, I sat down not sure what to say. And I guess I found something worth saying. Anyone can influence your life. Anyone.

You may not recognize it 'til much further down the road. But nonetheless, you'll recognize it.

Especially if it made its mark in you like it did for me in this case.

PREPARE yourself for the HASBRO family game night! It's tomorrow!

**note - as part of what I do for the station, I'm endorsing Hasbro and their first ever family game night. This is a video I made for them as part of the endorsement which I've also posted at Just disclosing... carry on**

This instructional video should help you to prepare!

Kayne's message to the flooded out Atlanta...

'Nuff said.

This was a Maloree Hood production.

I almost want to stay up til 3:01 am....

... so I can play this new Creed for you. It's called "Rain..." and it's amazing.

It's not the Creed we remember. It's Creed 2.0. Or Creed Vista. LOL or CreedOSX.

I might just do it. Because I think it's that good...

... and what we need to hear right about now.

If I do... you'll know it.

Columbia, SC... "my Columbia..."

I can still remember the whispers from some when I first arrived from Tampa...

"That station was so huge why would he leave..."

"I'm not sure why you'd choose Columbia..."

"Didn't you just think that you could have been 'talent' and everything would have been awesome... I heard some of the breaks you did while tracking in from Tampa and that s*** was hilarious... maybe you shouldn't be a PD... "

Tonight, a friend and brother reminded me about what he called "my Columbia..." with some life and career stuff he's got coming up...

It made me think. And those thoughts I want to share tonight...

... even if only for one person.

Columbia, South Carolina was a pretty amazing place. A place I never thought I'd be in my career. A place I wanted to go. A place I fell in love with.

And I hope if history tells the story correctly, it will be a place where we did indeed make a difference.

The whispers were right. Why would I leave the radio mecca of Tampa? A place that was so amazing, so incredible and so... perfect... to step into an unknown where I'd never been into a situation I've always wondered about but never known?

Because it was what I had to do.

I could go into the professional and personal reasons for either staying or going, and I will, when I write the book. But for now, it was just what I felt I needed to do.

Because it would center me.

Because it would lead to me getting out of my shadow - and the shadow of where I was.

Because there was something I needed to do and to prove.

Because there were things I needed to learn.

And because it was the place where I needed to go to find myself.

Some of my friends have heard me say lately that market doesn't dictate happiness. That it's about what makes us happy as we work so we might live. That only you as an individual and you alone can decide what is right for your destiny.

I was supposed to leave the comfort zone and become who I am.

Just as it is for anyone who seeks -- and finds -- their Columbia.

I learned so much there.

And I almost failed there miserably.

But that's when the me I know is within me came in. All the artist in me gave way to that which is also the scientist in me - and finding that balance as a programmer - became the difference. We created a great radio station by artistic standards....

... but it was the science that made what we truly did in Columbia while I was there - professionally - so profound.

And it was me personally, the time where I learned how to let go of me. How to find a love I thought I'd lost at the time. To find in myself that I was indeed the father I always imagined I could be and the person I'd wanted to continue to become.

In Columbia, I found what it was that I needed to do personally. And professionally. And when I left Columbia that late autumn day, I left knowing that I was better because of what I learned. Stronger because of what I'd experienced. Smarter because of what I'd been taught. And wiser because I found the kind of leader I wanted to be with a caution from the example of that which I never want to become.

In Columbia, I found who I am.

You can't put a price on that.

In life. In career. In our travels on this globe, we'll each encounter a Columbia. A place where the clouded becomes clear. Where the crooked becomes straight. And where life reveals itself.

I hope that soon... you find yours. If it hasn't already found you.

Joke Of The Week

Two women were playing golf One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed
directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.

The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin,
fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony.

The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize.
"Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist, and I know I could relieve
your pain if you'd allow me," she told him.

'Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes,' the man replied.
He was in obvious agony, lying in the fetal position, still clasping his hands there at his groin.

At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away
and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside.

She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments
And asked, 'How does that feel'?

He replied, 'It feels great, but I still think my thumb's broken
